Issuance of an emergency-temporary passport issued through Brazil

The passport issued in Brazil is not biometric and has validity of 1 year regardless of the age of the applicant. The process for the issuance takes an average of one month to complete after receiving the documentation in Luxembourg.

Attention: All requested documents issued in Brazil, including proof of address, must be accompanied by a sworn translation into French, German, or Luxembourgish, with the translator’s signature notarized in a notary office and must be legalized by the Consulate of Luxembourg in São Paulo, or apostilled by the notary office, according to the Hague Convention.

General Information:

  • The photo must be in the required standard and size. View standard photo file
  • The issuance of the passport takes an average of one month. There is no possibility of paying an urgency fee to expedite the issuance;
  • Payment of the issuance fee must be done through a bank or exchange broker in Brazil. If necessary, the Consulate provides a Letter / Declaration to prove the need for such transfer;
  • The data for the deposit are informed in item 3;
  • Fee values:

Normal issuance: Non-biometric passport valid for 1 year EUR 50.00 for older applicants and children over 4 years old; Passport valid for 1 year EUR 30.00 for children under 4 years old;

Procedures / Documents:

Complete the form “FICHE DE DEMANDE DE PASSEPORT BIOMÉTRIQUE”.

Complete with blue or black pen and in capital letters;

The signature field (Signature du Demandeur) may under no circumstances exceed the rectangle;

Documents necessary for applicants over 18 years old:

    • Authenticated copy of a valid Brazilian identification document: RG, RNE, or passport respecting the standard expiration date;
    • Simple copy of a valid Luxembourg identification document: “Certificat de Nationalité”, “Carte D’Arrête”, ID or passport;
    • Original of the marriage or divorce certificate; (if applicable)
    • Authenticated copy of the passport identification page or RG of the spouse, obeying the standard expiration date; (if applicable)
    • Simple copy of the identification page of the old Luxembourg passport; (in the case of renewal)
    • Authenticated copy of proof of residence in Brazil in the name of the applicant with date of issuance of maximum 90 days. If the proof is not in the name of the applicant, make a Déclaration de Résidence. Together with the declaration, an original or authenticated copy of a consumption account (water, electricity, telephone, etc…) with the same address as the declaration must be sent;
    • A standard color photograph photo file;

Documents required for an applicant under 18 years old

  • Authenticated copy of a valid Brazilian identification document: RG, RNE, or passport respecting the standard expiration date;
  • Simple copy of a valid Luxembourg identification document: “Certificat de Nationalité”, ID or passport. When the process is granted as recovery for the father or mother, the minor does not receive the “Carte D’Arrête”. In this case, in the first issuance of the passport, there is no Luxembourg document of the minor to present;
  • A simple copy of a valid Luxembourg identity document of the father or mother, who has citizenship: “Certificat de Nationalité”, “Carte D’Arrête”, ID or passport;
  • Original marriage or divorce certificate of parents;
  • In the first issuance of the passport, it is also necessary to present a certified copy of the identification document, RG or Passport of the father or mother who does not have citizenship. The RG must have date of issue of maximum 9 years and be accompanied by the sworn translation. The passport must be valid and does not require a sworn translation.
  • Proof of residence. For the minor applicant, in addition to proof of residence in the name of one of the parents, you also need to present a “Déclaration de habitte”. This declaration must be signed by both parents, and have the signatures notarized. The proof of address in the name of the father or mother must be accompanied by the appropriate sworn translation;
  • Simple copy of the identification page of the old Luxembourg passport; (in the case of renewal)
  • A standard color photograph photo file
  • Simple copy of proof of payment, referring to the passport issuance fee. The bank details are in item 3 below

  • Consular legalization fee in the translation of documents, considering: 1 original + translation = 1 document; OR;
  • Consular fee. If you choose to validate the notarized translator’s signature at the notary office by “apostille”, we charge fees related to the services provided: orientation, document verification, preparation. This cost will not be charged if the legalization of the documents is done by the Consulate;
  • Sending documents to Luxembourg by courier (DHL);
  • Administrative expenses for delivery of the passport after being issued, if the option is by mail
